I seem to have a leak from the Rocker cover gasket, so the first job today was to replace it. Because of the design of the cambelt cover on the Zetec the top half of the cover needs to be removed to gain access to the cam rocker cover bolts. This meant removing the nose cone. |
Seeing as I had the nose cone off I decided to fit the front indicators. The SVA book says they have to be a min height of 350mm, and no more than 400mm away from the outer edge of the car. On the Tiger the rear track is wider than the front so you have to measure from outer edge of the rear bodywork, not the front.
It turned out that I need to space the indicators out another 150mm to put them in the correct position. |
The Tiger supplied front indicators use a 10mm nut to hold them in place. I decided the easiest way to extend them was to cut a piece of 10mm threaded rod to 150mm length. Next job was to drill into each end of the rod with a 6mm drill, and then through the side of the rod. This now allows me to thread the wires through.. |
This shows the wires threaded through one end. I then locked an M10 nut joining the indicator to the threaded rod. |
A piece of 20mm electrical conduit was then cut to 150mm and placed over the rod to make it look a little better. |
The new extended indicators were then fitted to the nose cone and secured with a large repair washer and an M10 nut.
Once the SVA is over I will shorten them again. |
I still have to fit the front cycle wings. The tiger supplied brackets need a little 'persuading' to fit. I drilled a 10mm hole in them, bolted them in place and used my jack handle to bend them into the correct shape. |
This shows them both fitted. They will need to be removed later to be made SVA friendly, i.e radiused, and then treated to a coat of paint. |
I am fitting the wings with 2 M8 coach bolts, I will then glass fibre the wings to the stays for extra strength. |
One side bolted in place. |
